How To Remove Humidity From Your Home

It’s important that you never let your home get too humid, especially during those hot summer months. A home with a humidity level above 50 percent is considered to be too humid and is more susceptible to mold and mildew growth. This kind of environment is hospitable for bugs that often make their way into your home. To prevent that from happening, here are some ways that you can remove humidity:

Use a Clean Air Conditioning System

AC systems work by sucking in the air in your home and exchanging with air from a cleaner source. An AC system will do the following: take in dirty air inside your home, exchange it with clean air and spread that clean air, cool or warm, throughout your home. This lowers your home’s humidity in the process.

Use a Clean Dehumidifier

A dehumidifier is an appliance that takes in the air inside a room, separating the moisture, and finally reintroducing the air back into the space. The water collected from it, which is never to be consumed, is stored in a container that needs to be emptied often. A dehumidifier should be used along with an AC system, not in the place of one. Like an AC system, a dehumidifier won’t work as well as it should if it’s not cleaned out regularly.

Manage Air Ventilation

Some of your daily habits increase the levels of humidity in your home. If your home is spacious and properly ventilated, this is only temporary. Someone living in a small or poorly ventilated space should be more concerned. In a small home, if you were to take a warm shower and cook breakfast in the morning before work, your shower and stove would’ve increased the level of humidity in your home in a short amount of time. If you leave your AC off during the day, the hot air would linger and you would return to your home having a musty smell. Leaving the AC during a shower or while cooking breakfast manages some of the humidity in the environment.

Consult with an AC Company
