Is your air conditioner always breaking down without reason? Does it leave parts of your home freezing while other areas remain warm? Is your home always uncomfortable? If so, your air conditioning system is probably haunted.

…Just kidding.

Halloween may be this weekend, but you can rest assured that your HVAC system isn’t haunted. But if your current HVAC system isn’t exactly doing its job, it could be time to invest one for your home. Learn three signs your air conditioner is haunted—er, needs to be replaced, below.

1. Your system needs frequent repairs.

If your air conditioner needs frequent repairs, it may be time to invest in a new system. Over time, it’s normal for your HVAC system to need a repair here and there, but once repairs start becoming frequent and more expensive, it’s time to consider upgrading. A good rule of thumb to keep in mind is if your system requires a repair that costs more than half of what you initially paid for the system, replace it.

2. Certain rooms in your home are either too hot or too cold.

If certain rooms in your home are too hot or too cold it’s likely due to an improperly sized HVAC system. Unfortunately, if your HVAC system isn’t the right fit for the size of your home, there’s little that can be done to remedy the problem besides investing in a new unit. Although purchasing a new system may seem daunting, you’ll benefit from improved comfort and lowered energy bills as a result.

3. Your home is always humid.

Living in the Sunshine State, the last thing you want to deal with inside of your home is humidity. After all, Florida is the most humid state in the country, so you already battle humidity enough when you’re outdoors. Unfortunately, some HVAC systems don’t do an ample job when it comes to removing excess moisture from the home. Not only does excess moisture create an uncomfortable environment, but too much humidity can damage your belongings and contribute to poor indoor air quality. If your home is always humid, it may be time to upgrade your HVAC system or invest in a quality dehumidifier.
