Get Your Air Conditioning System Ready for Allergy Season

Springtime is here, and while the weather may be beautiful, for allergy sufferers, it can be a miserable time. Fortunately, you can easily allergy-proof your home with a little air conditioning maintenance. Learn how you can get your AC ready for allergy season, here:

Clean the Air Vents

Cool air travels through a series of ductwork and out of the air vents before it is able to cool your home. However, if the air vents aren’t clean, the conditioned air won’t be clean either. Air vents are subject to dust build-up, which can pollute the conditioned air as it travels through the ducts and out of the vents. This can be bad news for those who suffer from allergies. Luckily, cleaning the air vents is easy and is something you can do yourself or with the help from a professional.

Change the Filter

Your air filter is one of the most overlooked components of your air conditioning system, yet it’s one of the most important! Air filters are responsible for filtering out all of the nasty stuff from the air in our homes—think dander, dirt, dust and lots of other allergens. An air filter has an important job to do, but it cannot do so if it’s not clean. This is why it is important to clean or replace your air filter each month. To get your home ready for allergy season, swap that old filter with a fresh one.

Have an AC Maintenance Checkup

In order for your air conditioner to work as efficiently as possible, it needs a little routine maintenance every now and then. At least twice per year, you should have a maintenance checkup performed on your system. A maintenance checkup will ensure that your system is cleaned and that there are no underlying issues. The result? Your air conditioner will work better and will be able to stop allergens in their tracks.
