What Can I Do to Improve My Home’s Comfort?

After a long day, there’s nothing like relaxing in the comfort of your own home. However, your home’s air can actually hinder your personal comfort in a variety of ways. Your home can suffer from excess moisture or too little, air leaks can make your home too hot or too cold, and an outdated thermostat can make your home uncomfortable—just to name a few! Whatever the case, here are three ways you can improve your home’s comfort right now:

Change the Air Filter

The air filter is one of the most neglected components of your air conditioning system, yet it’s also one of the most important. Air filters are responsible for filtering funky stuff from the air—whether dirt, dust, or pollutants. Because air filters are constantly working to provide our home’s with fresh air, it’s important to remember that they need to be cleaned or replaced about once per month. An overworked air filter can cause your air conditioning system to function improperly, so if your home is feeling off, change the filter for a comfort boost!

Seal Air Leaks

Air leaks can happen in lots of places within our homes. Air can sneakily leak out of doors and windows, causing a bothersome draft and worse—increased energy bills! Luckily, sealing air leaks is generally an easy fix. Start by checking which doors and windows in your home are causing the air leaks. From here, try replacing the gaskets if the air is escaping from the bottom of doors or windows, or try caulking the sides of the doors and windows if air is escaping from here.

Upgrade Your Thermostat

Long gone are the days of manual thermostats. While manual thermostats are still a viable option for some homeowners, if your home’s comfort has dwindled, consider upgrading to a programmable thermostat. A programmable thermostat will allow you to set your thermostat to turn on or off automatically by programming the device in advance. This is a great option for those with busy lifestyles as they can set the thermostat to automatically turn on a few minutes prior to their return home.
