3 Ways to Improve Your IAQ This Spring

IAQ stands for indoor air quality, which refers to the cleanliness of the air you breathe inside your home. Poor indoor air quality can be detrimental to your health, so it’s important to maintain a high IAQ inside your home. Here are three simple tips for keeping your family happier and healthier with better air quality this spring.

Maintain Your Air Conditioner

When it comes to keeping the air inside your home clean, your AC system is a big contributor. After all, every bit of air that comes in and out of your homes circulates through your AC at some point. But your air conditioner can only help improve your IAQ when it’s clean and fully functioning.

Are you replacing the air filter each month? When was the last time you had a maintenance checkup performed on your system? If your AC system is not well maintained, it may end up circulating dirty air through your home. To keep your air cleaner, be sure to change your filter regularly and schedule AC maintenance visits at least once a year.

Get a Dehumidifier

Humidity can diminish your indoor air quality by adding moisture to the air, giving way to mold and bacteria growth. A dehumidifier can help. Dehumidifiers absorb the air inside your home, separate the moisture from it, and release it back into the room, cleaner and dryer.

By having a dehumidifier installed in your air conditioner, along with a climate-controlling thermostat, you can moderate the humidity level in your home for optimum comfort and air quality.

Use Green Cleaning Supplies

When you use harsh chemicals in your home, you are releasing harmful particles into the air you breathe. Chlorine bleach, aerosol spray products, floor cleaners, detergents and dishwashing soap, and even some air fresheners contain VOCs (volatile organic compounds) that can cause serious health issues with prolonged exposure.

To reduce the amount of harmful chemicals in your home, and improve your indoor air quality, choose cleaning products that have low or no VOCs, or opt for all natural products.
