How a Condenser Coil Works

To change the temperature of the air going into your home, an air conditioner circulates water, steam or chemical refrigerant that interacts with the air, pressurizing it into a liquid. When this liquid enters the condenser unit and runs over the coil, it changes back into a gas. The gas is then compressed, cooled and sent through your home’s ventilation system. This process repeats itself until the air has reached your desired temperature all throughout your home.

How to Detect Condenser Coil Problems

Unlike some of the other parts of your air conditioner, such as the air filter, condenser coils are generally self-maintaining and do not require frequent cleaning or replacement.
